The cat ate two cakes baked by Kate and Ray. Kate and Ray chased the cat because the cat ate their cakes.

What does it mean?

  • Day and Date
    • ☻ May: What day is today?
    • ☺ Tom: Today is Monday.
    • ☻ May: What date is today?
    • ☼ Ben: Today is Monday.

Q : Who said it wrong? Tom or Ben?

Ben gave May the wrong answer. He mixed up the meanings of day and date.

Day means the day of week; that is, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Date means a specific day of a month or a specific year.

Therefore, Ben should say “Today is February 2nd ” or “Today is the 2nd ” to answer May's question.

Animal Kingdom

  • Moo!

Cows help humans a lot. They are raised for meat and milk. However, do you know other facts about cows?

Cows have four stomachs. They spend about six hours eating. They don't bite grass because they have no upper teeth. They are able to see colors, except red. The bond between a cow and her baby is very strong, and even continues after her baby is fully grown.

Some of you may not know the difference among cattle, bull, cow and calf. Cow is mother, bull is father, and calf is kid, and they are all called cattle.

Next time, when you hear the moo sound, you know there comes a cow or a bull.

Something about

  • Aesop's Fables

Everyone loves stories, most of which we have ever heard are from Andersen's Fairy Tales, Grimm's Fairy Tales, and Aesop's Fables. Different from the first two, most of the characters in Aesop's Fables are animals, and each story conveys a moral lesson. There are many famous phrases from these stories. For example, to cry wolf is from “The Shepherd's Boy and the Wolf”, to bell the cat from “The Mice in Council”, and to look before you leap from “The Fox and the Goat”.

【Brainstorm it! 】
Q : Do you know any other phrases or idioms which derive from Aesop's Fables?
